Today I came across the following picture in ガールズ＆パンツァー リボンの武者 aka GuP - Ribbon no musha and it got me curious about the cheering cry and its origins:
Here the obvious reference is to the Sengoku Period*, and that's what got me thinking since I also heard it a few years ago in the 織田信奈の野望 aka Oda Nobuna no Yabou anime, also set during the Warring States.
So, does anyone know whether it dates back to this era, before or after? I have been able to find the answer for the French equivalent "Hip Hip Hip Hourrah" dated 1889.

* Then again maybe not, the chonmage tends to evoke the Edo Period... Back to the manga, the MC has the Takeda emblem on her tank and I wouldn't be too surprised if she had a fūrinkazan tattoo somewhere, so Sengoku still holds!
