Is it correct that some names are different in Japanese?

Postby Malthazar » February 12th, 2015 4:39 pm

So my name is Lysander but when I translated it with google it became ライサンダー or Raisandā for those who can't read that yet, so is it true that some names change if translated to Japanese? Or does it stay the same? (I need to know if I for example: introduce myself) oh and on a unrelated side-note, if someone bows if they introduce themself do you need to bow back? (and the other way around, so if you introduce yourself you need to bow?) i've seen this in some anime's but I want to be sure

Malthazar san,
Konnichiwa.
Japanese katakana is phonetic so writing your name depends on your original name sound.
If you tell me how to pronounce your name, I will be able to tell how to write or pronounce it.

And regarding bowing, yes when someone bow to you, you should bow to the person.
