Complex Sentences

Postby gaghl641295 » April 2nd, 2013 8:11 pm

I know that in Japanese the sentances are ordered as Subject Object Verb, But I'm not sure how to construct a complex sentence. If some one could help me and also give an example or two (Perferably in kana or roman letters) it would be very appreciated

I don't think there is a technique for constructing a complex sentence, or a method than can be summarised. Instead I think that as you learn vocabulary and grammatical structures, you acquire the ability to express more complex ideas, which in turn allows you to construct more complex sentences. So overall I think complex sentences are more to do with knowledge and experience than anything else.

Nevertheless … have you seen the Create your own sentence using Word of the Day! discussion in the Practice Japanese forum? There's a really excellent item by ericf in which he builds a complex sentence in order to demonstrate a grammar point. It's perhaps the kind of thing you're looking for: you can find it here.

By the way, if kanji cause you a problem, try using the Firefox browser and installing the Rikaichan add-on. Rikaichan pops up the meaning of kanji words when you hover over them. You don't have to give up trying to read something just because you can't read the kanji!

gaghl641295-san, マイケルsan,
kon'nichiwa! :D
Thank you very much for the kind help, マイケルsan!
Yes; マイケルsan is very right. There're no simple explanation for "how to make complex sentences"
even because I don't know what exactly you want to know and/or why you're facing problems.

You can join some forums where people are trying to compose sentences in Japanese, and/or
leave comments after the lesson with practice! You can practice Japanese sentences there,
and we're always happy to help you! Of course, you can ask us any questions too.

Good luck!
