Question about how to use ように

Postby Alex_k » January 14th, 2012 5:03 pm

I have a question regarding the use of 「ように」。

I'm going to provide two sentences and the only thing I want to know is if these are correct, if so I think I understand how to use 「ように」。

「 それについて話したように、私たちは今週の火曜日に会います」 - We're going to meet this tuesday in order to talk about it.

「敵を倒すように、戦うが必要だ!」 - In order to defeat the enemy, fighting is necessary! (in this example ために could probably be used instead of ように, but I just wanted to use the latter instead to see if it works).

Well, can 「ように」 be used like this? I want all knowledgeable people here to check it out, thanks a lot for your time. :)

ように

そのぶんはどちらもただしいですよ。(They are both correct.)

しってるとおもうけど、ようにはいみがふたつあります。(As I think you know, ように has 2 meanings.)

First meaning= so that/in order to (like in your examples)

たとえば:おなかがすかないようにたくさんおかしをもってくるつもりです。(So that I won't become hungry, I plan to bring a lot of snacks.)

Second meaning= like/as if (do you know this ように/ような form?)

たとえば:なごやのようなまちがすきです。 (I like cities like Nagoya.)

かれはカナダじんのようにえいごをはなせる。 (He speaks English like a canadian.)

やすいようにそのひとはテレビをよっつもかった。 (As if they were cheap, that person bought as many as 4 televisions.)

きょうはなつになったようにちょうあたたかかった。 (It was really hot today as if it was summer.)

You can use this with verbs, nouns and adjectives.

じゃあまた!

That was an absolute fantastic reply! I have learned the second meaning there quite well since posting but still thought that the first one was a little hard, thanks a lot for telling me about it. :D :D
