Sleeper Cars

Postby digitaljo » August 30th, 2006 7:59 am

Has anybody used a sleeper car or just taken a night train to somewhere far in Japan?
How were the accomodations in the sleeper cars? How would I reserve one? Any useful Japanese phrases to use? Any bits of information would be of great help!

I've never taken one, but I think you can get your tickets straight from the machine. Look for 夜行 ("yakou") or 寝台 ("shindai") somewhere on the menu... Something like that. If not, you'll have to hit the ticket vendor at one of the main stations.

Bus is cheaper if you can find one.
