Problems canceling account

Postby alexjamessmith8916 » July 6th, 2010 1:11 pm

Does anybody know the direct contact details of Japanesepod101, ie. a telephone number or business email address?

I signed up for a $10 per month package, thinking that I would be charged $10 each month.

I have been charged $240, and I am very unhappy about this, as this is clearly not $10.

Anybody else know how to get hold of these people? They haven't replied to my emails as of yet (sent two days ago).

when you sign up it says in parentheses how often you will be charged. If you want to pay monthly then it is $25 per month for the premium subscription. You only get the 10/month rate if you register for 2 years. It is somewhat misleading I agree, however I think most people are satisfied with this site and if you are serious about learning japanese, then the money you paid is well worth it.

I saw the amount in parentheses - that was the only place during the sign up process that showed a total amount of $240.... and it could be taken to mean

'you will pay a total of $240 if you buy 24 month subscription, payed as $10 each month'

or

'the total amount payable now is $240'

or any other variation you might care to think of.

The point is, the full price is not shown in another other place than in parentheses, and there is no explanation during the process of when the charges will be applied to my card.
Most shopping cart systems have a final review page (ie. amazon) where you can review what you are about to commit yourself to.

Yes it is misleading, and this kind of thing is probably the fastest way to lose customers like myself.

Let me just say, I actually think the quality of product is good and it is relevant to me, I'm sure it's worth it and I'm willing to purchase.... but not in this manner.

Anyway, I have now been refunded, thanks.

I agree. I don't understand why they have to use the misleading sales pitch. Just say its $240 instead of $10/month. You don't actually pay ten dollars a month, the whole plan AVERAGES out to ten dollars a month. You are charged 240.
