Starting my Learning Experiences

Postby titolink933805 » June 17th, 2010 2:45 am

I have recently taken quite a interest in learning how to read, write, and understand Japanese. But i am completly lost and don't know where to start. If someone can please help me and point me in the right direction it would be awesome!
P.S. I'm trying to learn japanese also because i want to be able to read manga and watch anime and being able to understand them:)

Welcome to the site! :D

For speaking and listening, I would recommend working through Season 2 of our Newbie series: http://www.japanesepod101.com/index.php ... &order=asc

For reading and writing, I would recommend watch our Kantan Kana videos on Youtube:

We have 1-8 up on Youtube, and the rest will be posted directly to the website.

That's a difficult question to answer directly. I think the best advice for anyone is to study as they study best :)
If taking notes works well for you, take them! ^_^
If not, don't or perhaps find another method :)

+1

For me writing out new vocab words helps me remember them. And saying new words a million times helps make the words naturally come out during conversations.

I lvoe the idea of immersion, but it is literlaly impossible for me to do that here wher ei live at hte moment. I started out using Rosetta Stone that a friend let me borrow, it works well but I udnerstand the problem I'vme having is that i"m constnatly translating the words in my head rahte rhan just going with it and udnerstanding them, I dunno maybe i"ll evnetuallyg et fluent...

My resaon would be so I can read manga and watch unsubbed anime and understand it as it was MEANT to be understood. I can't do subbed anime becasue i can't read and watch at the same time. Half-BLind you see so its' arhder to see things nayway. SO I tend tos tick to dubbed in English but...

I recently got my hands on Rememebring the Kanji and Remembering the Kana to start with and I guess form there i"ll move into the words and listening and just see how it all modls together. Romaji is awesome but not relaly helpful in tyring to read japanese, lol. Anywho ...
