"聞いといてアレだけど"?

I need help understand this phrase.
I think, the polite form would be:

「聞いておいてアレなんですが」

From the japanese article/blog I found upon googling, I get the feeling it's something along the line of:

"That's what I thought/ask but..."

Is my guess close to the actual meaning? Can anyone help me translate this phrase?
