棲み着いた explanation

Postby Tiduas » October 5th, 2009 7:47 am

I stumbled across this twice while playing YS Seven and I got really curious about what it meant.

棲み着いた

Can someone explain this to me? I know that it's in its past form, but when I try to translate the whole thing nothing appears, and seperately they mean (to live (of animals)) and the other is something like (to arrive at, to reach, to sit on).

Bahh, I have no idea, so please help me folks! ^_^

By 'live' it means 'inhabit'. It's the same すむ used when you say you 'live in Sweden'. Just a different kanji.
住み着く would probably be easier to look up, but 棲み着く presumably means essentially the same thing. Essentially, to settle in somewhere, make it home.

I've seen 棲む used about 鬼, so I'm guessing it's used for animals, beasts, demons, etc.
