Pop-Up Dictionary Beta Testers Needed

Postby Jessi » August 28th, 2009 8:31 am

Hi everyone! :D

Thanks for always joining in on the discussions and keeping these forums a fun and active place

Here at JPOD101 we're working on a Pop-Up Dictionary similar to Rikaichan that features audio: when you run your cursor over a word, you will not only get the reading and definition, but you'll hear a native speaker pronounce the word as well. We are still working on this and are looking for a group of people to be beta testers for this project. Please let us know if you are interested by sending us an email at :) Please note that this Pop-Up Dictionary is only compatible with Firefox at the moment, so you will need to have Firefox in order to use it.

Thank you very much!

Thank you to those who replied to this request!

Just an update: This project has been put on hold temporarily. The version we have right now has some major issues with the log-in sequence (basically, when you run it it has you log into your Jpod101 account) so we are trying to work through this issue first before we have beta testers try it out. We will let you know once we have a version that has this issue fixed! Thanks for your patience.

pop up dictionary

Postby indiana23 » December 22nd, 2009 9:38 am

This sounds promising. I've actually only been using the pop up dictionary for one day; however, I've already noticed there are lots of ways they could be improved. Although, I know it's probably not easy. One thing I would love to see is the ability to look up vocabulary, ideally arranged by word frequency, from a single kanji or a group of characters. So that, after clicking a Kanji, I could call up a list of words that the kanji is used in, to get a feel for it.
Currently, I use Kotoba, on my iphone, to do this. I find it much more useful to see what other words a Kanji is used in and what those words mean, rather than to see what the Kanji means.

good luck on the voice thing,

jwood
