Anybody completed Remembering the Kanji 3?

Postby Javizy » July 14th, 2009 12:46 am

I have gotten way behind on my kanji reviews lately, and even though I can still remember the characters, when it says 'this card will next be shown in 368 days', it doesn't leave me feeling confident. I downloaded a shared deck that has all the characters from RTK 1 and 3, which I plan to use as a refresher and then to learn the characters from RTK3.

What I was wondering is if all the new jouyou characters are included in the book (the ones that aren't in RTK1 anyway), since this would make them a lot easier to learn. The new characters are supposed to be practically common use already, and you'd assume the characters in the book would be similar in that respect, but I can't seem to find any information on it. If anybody knows about this, I'd appreciate the help, as well as your general impression of the usefulness of the characters included in the book.[/quote]

Been there, done it. It does cover pretty much anything you'll run into commonly (and a ton of stuff you won't), but unless you've already got a lot of vocabulary and reading practice under your belt, I wouldn't tackle RTK3 just yet. The study was a bit wasted at my level of comprehension/vocab when I did it, though a good number of the characters did stick long enough to see usage as my reading level advanced.

Your milage, of course, may vary!

Thanks for the reply. I won't be starting for a few months, since I need to get the first set of character reviews under control. I seem to be encountering a lot of non-standard characters lately, which is what made me wonder about trying the book, in addition to the jouyou changes.
