Can anyone explain what the "て" stands for in above sentence? Thanks in advance.

混んでて is short for 混んでいて. In this case, the い is omitted, which is common in spoken Japanese.

混んでいて is the te-form of 混んでいる, which means to be crowded.

Here are some other examples if the same omission:
