ながら - I'm confused

Why would this be すわない instead of　すう

あの人はときどきたばこをすわないながらあるいています

あの人はときどきたばこをすわないながらあるいています。
→　あの人はときどきたばこをすいながらあるいています。

"たばこをすわないながら" doesn't make sense.
