I Hope

Postby Javizy » July 21st, 2008 10:36 pm

It's really annoying me that I can't find the answer to this ANYWHERE. I don't know if I've forgotten or overlooked something, but all I want to do is express a light kind of wish, like the following:

I hope the weather is good tomorrow.
I hope you're feeling okay.
I hope you're not angry at me.

It's my impression that 望む is a bit too strong for this kind of thing. I think maybe といい can be used like this, but I'm really not sure about this.

よろしくぅ!

You've probably already looked here but:

といい appears in a number of the sentences.

These are more friendly and colloquial Japanese.
I hope the weather is good tomorrow. = 明日(あした)、晴(は)れるといいな。
I hope you're feeling okay. = (きみが)大丈夫ならいいんだけど。
I hope you're not angry at me. =怒(おこ)ってないよね。

Thanks for the responses. I can't believe this point isn't in my grammar references

i usually use ~たら、いいなぁ to convey this.

明日はいい天気だったらいいなぁ。
I hope the weather is good tomorrow.
元気だったら、いいなぁ。;
I hope you're feeling okay.
怒ってなかったら、いいなぁ。
I hope you're not angry at me.
