Just made a small app for JLPT's vocabulary

Postby attwad » June 21st, 2007 12:01 pm

I just made an app to learn the vocabulary needed for the 4th level of the JLPT.
Its purpose is to be as small/user-friendly/simple as possible I think I can't make it more simple as it is ^^
For now I only implemented the level 4 but soon I'll update with the 3rd (during the week or the next week when i'll get the time!).

Here is how it works:

There is only two textboxes where you can input either the english or the japanese word you're asked for, you can choose what you wanna practice for example english to Japanese or Japanese to english or both randomly.

Here is what it looks like:
Image

When you're asked japanese you have to write the word in hiragana/katakana, not the kanji, and not in romaji. That means you'll need the japanese keyboard installed on your computer. If you don't know how to do it, please look at http://www.japanesepod101.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9&

The application is in JAVA so you'll need a Java Virtual Machine installer on your computer but that should be the case for most of us...

And to stole a line from Peter-san "with that said, let's get into today's lesson:"

web version:
edit: no web version anymore for the moment.

Java web start version:

Feel free to post here any suggestions or remarks!

Thanks and happy learning :)

Hope the waiting was not too long ;) I updated my application with the vocabulary for the 3rd level!
I also stopped the web version as it was as I'm working on a new specific web version...
So please use the Java Web Start from now on!

I also modified the length of the window so that we can see the entire translation when it was too long.

The location hasn't changed so がんばってください!

Doesn't work on my Mac. I can send you the screenshots if you would like to give me your email.

This is a great little tool....thank you very much. :D

Could I ask, when do you think you will run a web version again? (if at all)

i really like this ap!
it's very useful when it comes to quizzing myself on jlpt-specific vocabulary.

one little gripe though: i'd prefer it if it was a little more flexible with the answer "detection". i typed in "tools" for 道具 and the correct answer was "tool". but well, i should probably be stricter with myself, i suppose. kanji recognition would be a great add-on too in the future.

much, much thanks for posting it! :)

Yes it's either too or not enough accurate for the responses I'm sorry but you know it's not a championship (if you want I could store the scores to do one of course ;) ) I could add a button which says "Hey my prevous answer was correct please give me my point". why not ^^

I'm also working on another style of very simple app for the vocabulary, I'll be releasing it on monday or tuesday so stay tuned :)

And the web version is ongoing this week also of course!
